The present is theirs; the future, for which I really worked, is mine."

Life story

Nikola Tesla was born on 10 July 1856. Of Serbian origin, he would in time make his life and work in America, becoming an engineer, inventor and futurist whose vision reached far beyond his own era.

He is remembered above all for his contributions to the design of the modern alternating current electricity supply system, an achievement that helped bring light and power to the modern world.

A tireless and imaginative mind, he saw possibilities where others saw none, and he devoted himself wholly to the advancement of technology, often at the cost of his own comfort and fortune.

He died on 7 January 1943 in New York City. His genius endures in the systems that power everyday life, and his memory is honoured at the Nikola Tesla Museum in Belgrade, where his legacy is kept for future generations.
