Life story
Michal Dočolomanský was born in 1942 in the Spiš village of Nedeca, which is now part of Poland. His father was a teacher who worked among Slovaks in Transylvania, Romania; after his death, the family moved to Svätý Jur.
He completed his studies in acting in 1964 at the Academy of Performing Arts and from that time onwards was a member of the drama company of the Slovak National Theatre. He was an actor, singer, voice actor, presenter and impressionist — and in each of these roles the audience knew him by his voice.
His most renowned stage role is Jánošík in the play Na skle maľované, which he played from 1974 until 2002; the production achieved 642 performances. He appeared in many Slovak and Czech films and series, including Sváko Ragan and Povstalecká história.
He died on 26 August 2008 in a Bratislava hospital at the age of 66. In 2010 he was posthumously awarded the Order of Ľudovít Štúr.
