Life story
Marián Labuda was born in Hontianské Nemce. After completing his studies at the Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, he became a member of the Slovak National Theatre in 1965, with which he was associated for almost his entire career; after a break, he returned to its ensemble in 1989.
He was among the most renowned Slovak theatre, film and television actors and performed equally at home and in the Czech environment. He could be a comedian and a serious actor in the same role — that was precisely the source of his charm. Audiences knew him as Count Erdődy from Pacho, the Hybe highwayman, the Master from The Rose Dreams, Karel Pávek from My Village Middle School, Stoklasa from The End of Old Times, and William Peachum from The Beggar's Opera.
He died on January 5, 2018 at the age of 73. He is buried at Ondrejský Cemetery in Bratislava.
