Life story
Ladislav Chudík was born on 27 May 1924 in Hronec. He became one of the greatest actors of Slovak theatre and film — an actor whose nobility, precision and human dignity made him a moral authority even off the stage.
For decades he was a pillar of the drama company of the Slovak National Theatre, where he portrayed dozens of major characters from the classical and modern repertoire. His performance was refined, focused and full of inner strength.
He also became famous in film and television; internationally he is known above all as Doctor Sova from the legendary series Hospital at the End of the City. He was an actor who could say more with a single glance than others with an entire monologue.
Shortly after 1989 he also served as Minister of Culture. He died on 29 June 2015 in Bratislava. He remained a model of acting as service — honest, quiet and deeply human.
