Life story
Karol Duchoň was born in Galante. He began singing as a teenager with beat groups, in 1969 with Eva Mázikova in Braňa Hronca's group, and already in 1970 he took the stage for the first time at the Bratislava Lyre.
There followed a series of accolades: in 1973 the Silver Bratislava Lyre for the duet Chvála humoru with Eva Kostolányiová and first prize at the Budapest festival, in 1974 the Golden Bratislava Lyre for the song Zem pamätá. In 1975 he sang Čardáš dvoch sŕdc at the Yamaha world festival in Tokyo, in 1976 he recorded his first album in Germany, and in 1977 he performed at the MIDEM festival in Cannes.
He possessed a voice unparalleled in Slovak popular music. He died in Bratislava on 5 November 1985, at only thirty-five years of age. In 2006 he was awarded the Aurel Prize in memoriam for his lifetime contribution to musical culture.
