Life story
Frédéric François Chopin was born in 1810 in Poland, a land whose spirit would echo through all his music. From childhood his gift for the piano set him apart, and it would remain the centre of his life's work.
A composer and virtuoso pianist of the early Romantic period, he wrote primarily for solo piano. Through the instrument he found a voice of rare intimacy and expression, unmatched among the composers of his generation.

He died on 17 October 1849 in Paris, the city where he had made his home in exile. He rests in the Père Lachaise Cemetery, and his music continues to move listeners across the world with its tenderness and grace.
